Betsy Weedon's obituary from local Marin County newspaper

(MILL VALLEY, Calif. April 12, 2006) Elizabeth Bayard Weedon, Jr. died on April 6th, 2006 at her home in Mill Valley, California, after a hard-fought struggle against a long illness. She was 66.

Betsy was predeceased by her parents, William S. Weedon and Elizabeth B. Weedon, of Charlottesville, Virginia. Betsy was a graduate of the Emma Willard School in Troy, NY, and Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY, class of 1960, and was an accomplished writer, poet, horsewoman, master gardener and a noted philanthropist.

Betsy was a remarkably intelligent individual who had a broad scope of knowledge, always able to expound on subjects ranging from English and Irish literature classics to mystery stories, esoteric texts, art, gardening and children's books. She possessed that rare quality of being able to listen intently to the people around her, thus helping them create a greater sense of themselves. Her generosity was boundless and she loved animals.

Betsy's family would like to thank Sally Catalana and the entire Marin Nurses Network team who looked after her so caringly during her sickness. Special thanks also to the kind Dr. Robert Belknap, her longtime physician; to Vicki Roseman, Betsy's capable and caring personal assistant; to Margaret Walter, RN, for her sage advice to Betsy and to her family; and to the Hospice of Marin for their end-of-life support.

Very special thanks are also extended to all of Betsy's many devoted friends, neighbors and godchildren who touched her heart with their flowers, visits, phone calls, book readings and nursing care. Those expressions of love touched her heart and soul deeply. Betsy is survived by her sister Mary W. Pollock and Mary's husband, Eugene P. Pollock, both of Charlottesville; and by her sister Jennifer W. Phillips and her husband David Phillips, both of Austin, Texas. Also surviving Betsy are two nephews, William S. W. Pollock and Eugene E. Pollock; and her niece, Citabria B. Phillips.
