The Multi-pronged Artistry of a Broadway Diva

Expression across multiple disciplines from individual artists is one of ARTvision’s most notable aspects. Alexis Vear, for example, did it in 2008 with the painting “Cabo Cow” while actively touring as a musician and promoting her CD, “Let it Go.”

Julia Murney is another example of artistry finding its way out of a body through multiple avenues. Currently starring in “Queen of the Mist,” an off-Broadway musical penned by five-time Tony nominee Michael John LaChuisa, Julia has donated her time to countless charity efforts, including last year’s ARTvision as a first-time photographer. She is frequently giving of her time for charities, including the group Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.

Her piece, “
Blooming Coconut,” attracted two separate buyers last year and more than $4,000 for Positive Impact - and it cemented her photographer “hobby” as a new expression from an already tremendous talent. Here’s Julia with Sutton Foster singing a (nicely arranged) duet of “I Know Him So Well.”

Julia returns to ARTvision again this year with two great pieces for donation to ARTvision and Positive Impact. They are:

“Lulu’s Bubbles” by Julia Murney

“Kauai Chicken” by Julia Murney

Julia says her “Kauai Chicken” during her stay in Hawaii was insistent on attention. “They are everywhere on the island,” she says, adding that the animal was, ahem, feral. “There are signs that say to leave them alone, so we did. But this one just didn't seem to want to leave me alone. And he had stuff to say.”

Clear across the country on another small island, Nantucket, Julia captured Lulu as she danced around just before a meal. “Lulu was on Nantucket with me this summer. Dinner was being made and the sun was setting, and she was whirling in circles with her bubble wand,” she says. “Lulu is a magical, little sprite and cannot be captured in still frame.”

Update: “Lulu’s Bubbles” is now listed for a 7-day auction on eBay! Click for details. Starting bid is $750.

Update II: Julia Murney is ready for an encore. “I’d Rather be Sailing” is a third image, coming soon. Details about location, size, frame, image media and auction to follow shortly. Make sure to tell your friends - this will be a quick, one- or three-day auction. :)
