Ask someone to accompany you to your car, too, if it is too far away from the house. ...Office of Highway Safety has issued a phone app, available for both Android and iPhones, called “Drive Sober, Georgia” - on which you can order a free taxi ride home. ... Those of you not in the city of Atlanta, and who don’t live in NYC where cabs are ubiquitous, your state may have a similar program. ...Be aware of your surroundings and make sure to walk in groups. We want to make sure you get here and get home safely.

Thanks to Julie Boyer for the donation and purchase of “Nomad” by Will Pollock. This hawk came to visit the Stapletons on Myrtle Street and Will ran out in his skivvies to take the picture. This is one of three pictures he was able to snap before the hawk flew away. Will is offering this piece in quantity, so if you’d like to order one - let him know. Choreographer and dancer extraordinaire Vibecke Dahle returns to ARTvision with “Memories,” a photo output to canvas. The subject, Carmen, lived a very active life near water and had a strong reaction when shells were gifted to her that came from a beach she could no longer visit. “The image for me shows a contrast of time,” Vibecke says. “Carmen’s older sister was picking shells for her from the beach because Carmen can't walk much anymore. ...An accidental homage to the late, great Jimi Hendrix, this image was taken at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens during a recent visit with my parents. The Hendrix song, “Purple Haze” was apparently inspired by a dream Hendrix had where he was walking under the sea, and was engulfed by a purple haze and got lost. ...I got a call from my neighbor Jim Stapleton that a hawk had landed in the backyard and that I should grab my camera and shoot it. ... The guy didn’t stay long and looked as though he had lots of other places to visit. ... ...Named for the Melissa Etheridge song, “I Need to Wake Up,” this simple sunrise image was shot in Chautauqua, N.Y., and reminded me of the importance of seeing each day as new, fresh and brilliant. “I am not an island/I am not alone/I am my intentions/trapped here in this flesh and bone” is the lyric that has stuck with me all this time, and this scene reminded me of that.

When ARTvision began back in 2006, it was designed to be an online celebration of the arts - using strategic photos, measurements and “romance” to coax buyers into making corresponding donations to buy art. Slowly but surely, we added in-person viewing to the ARTvision equation, and you responded. Our preview viewing events in both 2009 and 2010 yielded thousands of donations before the official day of the event on New Year’s Eve. This year, we are trying something entirely new, also based on fan feedback. We’ve moved ARTvision to a standalone event - just to focus on the in-person viewing and fund-raising that will take away the crunch of the end of the year and allow folks to get that tax deduction before the end of the year. ...Without it, we won’t be able to improve! As an overall event, we are lucky to be treated to artistry sourced from all over the country - and Sean “Buck” Mansfield is a good example of that multi-city infusion of talent. ... Lauderdale and Saratoga Springs, N.Y., Sean is logging his fourth year as displaying ARTvision artist. His entry this year, “The Patterns of Prague,” is a mixed-media-based collection of four architectural photos that struck him while visiting Europe. Thanks to a chance connection by my friend and trainer Eric Do, we are all treated to the talent of San Francisco college student and avid photographer Dean Ignacio for the first time. His “Folsom” series, mostly black and white but some in color, reveal a humanness of revelers rarely seen in a young photographer. (read more) Dean says the homeless man in “Adventures in Scavenging” used his shopping cart like a adventure chariot. "He was laid out on the street like rag doll and very complacent of himself, as if the shopping cart was dragging him to places unknown,” he says. “Folsom as 'unknown' is such an understatement and I'm sure he had a lot to scavenge that day."
