’Reclaiming’ artistry through salvage

(ATLANTA :: 7 December 2010) Sean Mansfield returns for his third ARTVision with "Rescued & Reclaimed,” a glass-topped, painted wooden table created from an architectural salvaged door and stair spindles.

"I've always been inexplicably drawn to architectural salvage,” he says. “I often seek out salvage yards when I travel. When I began renovating homes in the mid-2000s, it gave me the opportunity to incorporate salvage pieces into the renovations. I started designing and building furniture from these pieces when it came time to stage these properties for sale - I haven't stopped since.

“The dimension and depth of older panelled doors are fantastic,” he adds, “and the heft of older stair balusters and spindles make great table legs since they are nearly exactly the length of the modern table standard height."

The table is approximately 22" x 28"x 29" high, and is still in progress. Stay tuned to the blog and to our Twitter feed for updates! This piece is offered for a donation of $350.
