Artist’s statement:

“These abstract images represent automobiles. I try to find the artistic expression in everyday objects that can be reduced to one or two simple elements. The details are not important, overall. Here, all the images have something to do with parts of cars. What parts are actually irrelevant—it’s the ability of the image to generate something of beauty and interest!

It happened to be a rainy day, which is not so good for an outdoor auto show—but it gave me the chance to do something a little different. ‘Droplets’ and ‘Seascape’ are from water on cars, reimagined as abstracts.

I wanted to show that even in a case of unambiguous pollution, there sometimes can be things of beauty.

Two of the images are created from oil leaking from a crankcase on to asphalt (Oil and Water, Bigfork Seascape). I wanted to show that even in a case of unambiguous pollution, there sometimes can be a thing of beauty.

Why abstracts? As a brain researcher, I have to work with incredible details all day long—very concrete, very specific. The last thing I want to do with my free time is to focus on such detail when there is so much to see and create in the minimal.”
